After my son was finally delivered (vacuumed out of me) & my husband ran home for extra clothes, the receptionist came into my small, hot room and started shooting the breeze with me. All the while my newborn cried his head off because he was swaddled and overheating in the tiny room. The receptionist didn't even seem to notice and kept on talking to me! I've never wanted to go home more badly. It felt more like a prison than a facility administering CARE to PATIENTS.
All of the other ''nurses' were very, very young MALE and female medical students and there were so many of them coming in and out of my room at very vulnerable moments that it actually became overwhelmingly awkward and stressful for my spouse and I.
I delivered my next two children at Grandview Hospital. The difference between the two hospitals is so pungent it's like comparing Heaven and Hell. Don't deliver here.
Caring
ER experience not so great, will never come back to this hospital if I can help it! Check-in receptionist could not even give us an estimated wait time because her "shift just started" despite the fact that we were 2 of 6 people in the waiting room. Followed by the check-in nurse who takes symptoms/vitals/basic info had a pretty poor attitude; when she horribly mispronounced my girlfriend's name (to the point where we weren't sure that it was even us that she was calling) we asked to clarify the name and she just shrugged and waved us in. Once we finally made it back to a dimly lit exam room, I noticed what looked like blood on the blood pressure cuff. Thankfully they had already taken her vitals otherwise I would not have let them put that on anyone, much less myself or my girlfriend. The registration person verbally acknowledged that she was tired and "ready to go home" but was at least in a better mood than the staff we had encountered so far. Finally the doctor and a PA came in; wanted a hurried up version of why we were there, didn't really seem to be in the mood to be calming or answer any questions, just poor bedside manner in my opinion and I think the nicest person we dealt with was the nurse who actually "treated" my girlfriend. She was very nice, very patient with a person who is afraid of needles, answered any questions we had, and even left us with a smile and a "I hope you feel better, have a good night!" All in all, I do not recommend. Maybe other wings/departments of this hospital are better, but the ER experience was just scary!
I had a very scary delivery experience. NO ONE was coaching us as contractions were coming, and because of the epidural I didn't even know I was having contractions. Finally a Dr. BURST into the room and started shouting at me to "PUSH PUSH PUSH PUSH PUSH PUSH PUSH PUSH PUSH...!!!!" He didn't even stop and count to 10 so that I could breath! I actually started literally hyperventilating and gasping, "I can't breath...I CAN'T BREATH!" He then let me take a few seconds to catch my breath but just as quickly started yelling at me again to "PUSH PUSH PUSH PUSH...!!!"
Top Notch
They let my Grandmother sit in her own urine and did not aide her properly. We reminded them many times that at night she would have to be checked on. They did not. Avoid this hospital if you can.
My husband and I delivered our first son here and it was a nightmare, a real nightmare. The nurse was cold, mean, disgruntled, & eerily stoic. She was completely useless to me as a support system and/or a conveyor of important information, and it was our fist child! We had no idea what to expect.
Concerned
Sincerity
The nurse had a attitude plus go in for dental pain when I have a decaying wisdom tooth they only prescribe me pennacillin like seriously. Worst experience I've ever had
Excellent
Staff
It was horrible; I wouldn't wish this experience upon anyone. The Labor & Delivery ward was run by mean, indifferent people and "children" (medical students who looked more like high schoolers than adults - I'm sorry but they did). The only person I even remember smiling at me was a Resident! That's it. The whole experience was insane. I tell everyone I know NOT to deliver at the St. Luke's Allentown campus in order to be spared the horrible encounters that await them here.
